This week’s review on HVTBM is of Vancouver, Canada’s Said The Whale’s single “Heavy Ceiling.” The single is from their recently released, full length 2012 album “Little Mountain.”

Said The Whale’s latest single “Heavy Ceiling” is the type of song, if listened to while driving, may cause you to receive a speeding ticket and a couple of moving traffic violations. There is an immediate sense of urgency that Said The Whale exemplifies with this hook laden, power popping single.

Said The Whale is articulate in its execution of their single Heavy Ceiling’s tight arrangement. The tune starts off with vocals alongside a picked and treb-ly bass.  The bass has just the right amount of overdrive to foreshadow the energetic performance yet to come. With its stripped down introduction, the band almost feels to be saying to the listener,”Just you wait; something awesome is about to happen.” Said The Whale quickly backs up that promise with a super, solid performance.

Said The Whale’s single “Heavy Ceiling” has some tastefully supportive piano voicings, a solid back beat, strong guitar melody lines, great synth leads, and, of course, a strategically placed tambourine.

  1. Fun review! Love your site’s new look, too.

  2. Super new music reviews.

  3. Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point. You clearly know what youre talking about, why throw away your intelligence on just posting videos to your site when you could be giving us something informative to read?

    • Cool, thank you for constructive critiquing! I usually do more in depth write-ups with Band Interviews and keep it light on the Band Reviews. Thanks again!
